The Kaupanger stave church was built about 1180. The name Kaupanger shows that this was an old trading place in Sogn ('kaupa' meant 'buy'). Busloads of tourists visit the church in summer, as well as many of these old churches, actually wearing them down. Let's hope that some of the tourists enjoy it.
