In early autumn the leaves of Black Bearberry (Arctostaphylos alpina) acquire this intense red color. This color is only seen in transmitted (and scattered) light, in reflected light the leaves look dull reddish brown. Site: North of Vassfjellet, Sør-Trøndelag.

Black Bearberry mixed with Reindeer Lichen in the highlands. There are also small samples of Empetrum nigrum (black crowberry) and Vaccinium vitis-idaea (foxberry, lingonberry etc.). Site: Strynsfjellet.
