Svinvika – the arboretum. (At Todalsfjorden, southeast of Kristiansund.) Halvor Svinvik (1894–1976) had this extreme interest for plants and obtained by mail seeds from all over the world. Together with his wife Anna he made a part of the farm into an arboretum with exotic conifers, rhododendron, bamboo and other species. Please note that the north side of the inner part of a fjord has a surprisingly warm climate. In 1971 Halvor donated his farm and arboretum to the university in Trondheim. It is now a subsidiary to the

arboretum in Trondheim, where the climate is harsher. In summer it is open to the public.
