Google Maps™ – Falstad (in Levanger)

Memorial in the Falstad Woods, Levanger, Nord-Trøndelag (artist: Odd Hilt 1947). During World War II the former Falstad boarding school served as an concentration camp. In the dark Falstad Woods, behind this memorial, prisoners were executed, counting 101 Russians, 62 Serbs and 43 Norwegians. This picture was taken on a day with rain and sun two days after the Constitution Day, which explains the wet wreaths. However, I don't know who brings them, but after all these years fresh flowers may be found there any time.

Update November 2008: New research shows that the number of executed prisoners may be considerably higher, probably close to 300.
